Vondy Pitches In

The Liverpool Trojans are delighted to announce that former Great Britain International Rob Vondy has stepped forward to run a series of specialist pitching clinics - beginning this Sunday.

The clinics, which will be run alongside the Trojans' indoor sessions every Sunday from 9-11am, have been put in place by the club in order to develop the skills of both our current and prospective pitching staff.

Vondy, who is coming off his second consecutive year playing in the German Bundesliga, began his playing career in Liverpool as a youth with the Liverpool Comets. The Comets were coached by his father, Rob Sr, after Jr fell in love with baseball at a Trojans camp.

He would continue his journey with Halton Baseball Club before joining the Trojans when he was 16. It wasn't long before Vondy established himself as a dominant pitcher, playing a key role in the Trojans national championship sides of 2011 and 2012.

In 2014, Merseyside-born Vondy would head off to the States for college where he was able to further develop his game. He returned to the Trojans in 2019, ultimately picking up the win in the decisive game of the BBL final with Sheffield Bruins. At this time, the Trojans thought their protégé may be home for good - only for COVID to hit and no baseball be played the following year.

Where many saw chaos, Vondy saw opportunity and so he set to work getting himself into game-shape. It was a long road, but eventually Vondy was able to secure himself a contract to pitch professionally in Germany for the Gauting Indians in 2022. In 2023, he would move on to Hünstetton Storm.

Now in the professional off-season and waiting to see where he will play this spring, Vondy is looking to give back to the game that has brought him so much over the years.

"I really want to help out as much as I can." Explained Vondy. "When I was starting out I was coached by my dad who only started the team because their wasn't one. He was a great help, but he had no background as either a player or a coach. I think we have the opportunity here to level-up the pitching at the club. It won't be easy, I'll be asking them to work hard but if they do then I know we'll get results."

Trojans General Manager Ian Blease is delighted to have this kind of expertise aboard. "Rob is great guy, and an incredible talent. Sure, we have coaches already but none that have the pedigree in the game that he does. He's really keen for this project to be a success, and I know he will deliver."
